Several people were injured in a crash involving a police officer on Monday night.

It happened just after 8:30 p.m. in the area of Northwest 10th Street and 7th Avenue in Miami.

According to Miami police Officer Michael Vega, the officer was traveling northbound on Northwest Seven Avenue with their lights and siren on while they were enroute to a child choking/not breathing.

Vega said the officer collided with a Volkswagen Jetta that was heading eastbound on Northwest 10th Street.

He said the Jetta struck a light pole and the pole fell on top of the police vehicle.

The officer and a female in the Jetta were transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center and a male in the Jetta was transported to the hospital’s Emergency Room.

According to Vega, the officer suffered several lacerations, and has since been released.

The man in the Jetta was also released from the hospital, but the female suffered several bone fractures and was still at JMH, as of Tuesday morning.

Authorities said the crash also caused power lines to come down.

Crews with Florida Power & Light arrived to the scene late Monday night.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation, and it’s unclear which driver was at fault.
