Motorcyclist dies after car ignores right of way near PBIA

A crash near the Palm Beach International Airport has claimed the life of a motorcyclist after a left turn was made by a car that violated the rider’s right of way.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO) crash report states that on Sunday at 2:08 p.m., a car was traveling westbound on Belvedere Road and was in the left-turn lane for the Palm Beach International Airport (PBIA)

According to the report, simultaneously, a 39-year-old man on a motorcycle was approaching the PBIA/North Congress Avenue traffic signal from the opposite direction, traveling eastbound in the middle lane. Both vehicles had a green traffic light.

Officials said that the car made a left turn directly into the path of the motorcycle, violating the motorcyclist’s right of way. The motorcycle’s front end struck the car’s right rear fender, causing the rider to be thrown off.

Emergency services arrived quickly, and the motorcyclist was transported to St. Mary’s Medical Center by Palm Beach County Fire Rescue, where he was pronounced dead due to the injuries sustained in the collision.
