Motorcyclist dies after hitting SUV that made U-turn into his path on Atlantic Boulevard: Florida Highway Patrol

A 44-year-old motorcyclist died Saturday after a crash with an SUV on Atlantic Boulevard that had eastbound lanes shut down for hours.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, around 12:30 p.m. Saturday, the motorcyclist was headed east on Atlantic Boulevard in the left lane, approaching Hawaii Drive, which is less than a mile east of I-295.

Troopers said a 64-year-old woman driving an SUV was headed west on Atlantic Boulevard at the same time, and tried to make a U-turn across the eastbound lanes at Hawaii Drive.

The SUV crossed the motorcyclist’s path, and the front of the motorcycle hit the right side of the SUV, FHP said.

The motorcyclist, who had been wearing a helmet, was taken to a local hospital, where he died, the report said.

The woman driving the SUV was not hurt. She was wearing a seat belt, according to the report.
