Ocoee police officer shoots driver in Publix parking lot

An Ocoee Police Department officer shot the driver of a vehicle while responding to a stolen vehicle call near a Publix in the city Sunday morning.

According to the Ocoee Police Department, officers were in the area of 301 West Road looking for a stolen vehicle when they made contact with the vehicle in the shopping plaza parking lot. The driver of the vehicle then drove at the officers in an attempt to escape and struck an officer.

Then a police officer discharged their service weapon and struck the vehicle’s driver. The driver has been transported to a nearby AdventHealth hospital and is in critical condition.

No officers were injured in this shooting and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is now investigating the officer’s use of force.
