 One person is dead after a fire broke out in Pensacola early Wednesday morning at an abandoned paint and body shop, according to the Pensacola Police Department.

Officials say the incident took place around 3:50 a.m. at the shop formerly known as Jones Paint & Body, located at the intersection of Cervantes and J streets.

The medical examiner and state fire marshal are on the scene investigating.

Pensacola Police confirmed that the building’s owner arrived at the scene and mentioned having a family member staying in the shop.

It is not yet confirmed if the deceased is the family member, but other relatives are present, awaiting more information.

The eastbound lane is closed.
