Police: Florida woman attempts to kill husband after he receives postcard from ex-girlfriend from 60 years ago

A 71-year-old woman is facing charges after she allegedly tried to kill her husband over a postcard.

According to an arrest report from North Miami Beach Police, Bertha Yalter and her husband were in a dispute after an ex-girlfriend from 60 years ago sent him a postcard. Police responded to the home shortly before 4 p.m. on Sunday when the argument turned physical.

The arrest report says Yalter attempted to smother her husband with a pillow and bit and physically battered him. Investigators said the husband was extremely fragile and had several serious bruises and open cuts on his arms and stomach. The bite marks he had were bleeding, NBC 6 reported.

The North Miami Beach PD gathered cell phone footage that captured the entire incident, the arrest report says.

According to officials, Yalter and her husband have been married for about 52 years.

Yalter is facing charges of attempted murder in the second degree, aggravated battery on a person 65 years or older and tampering with the victim.
