An 18-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a double shooting earlier this month in Miami that police say left his older brother and a teenage girl critically injured two weeks ago.
The suspect, who was identified as A A in an arrest warrant from the Miami Police Department on Thursday morning, is facing two counts of attempted felony murder after authorities say he opened fire on his biological brother and the brother’s female acquaintance during an argument on July 3.
According to Miami police, officers responded to the 2300 block of Northwest 11th Street shortly before 12:45 a.m. and found two victims — D A, 22, and EM, 18, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Police said both victims were treated at the scene with tourniquets and chest seals before being rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center in critical condition.
According to an arrest warrant, witnesses told detectives the shooting unfolded during a conversation among a small group outside the home.
One witness told police that A became upset after overhearing something said between the victims and then pulled out a silver handgun, the warrant stated.
The witness said Angel first shot Morales in the chest before turning the gun on his brother, firing multiple rounds and hitting him in the stomach, right forearm and torso, according to the report.
Authorities said A then attempted to fire additional rounds but his weapon jammed.
Another witness told police he watched from his bedroom window as A walked up to Morales and shot her, then shot his brother before fleeing on foot with his sister, according to the report.
That witness said he briefly chased A before returning to help the wounded victims and calling 911, investigators said.
They said the suspect fled Miami-Dade County following the shooting, but was eventually located by MPD’s Domestic Violence Felony Apprehension Unit.
As of Thursday, A is being held without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
A was seen with a black eye in his booking photo, but it was unclear whether the injury was related to the incident.
