Police: Man killed, woman in critical condition after Lakeland crash

One person is dead and another is in critical condition after a late Wednesday night crash in Lakeland.

The Lakeland Police Department confirmed that 38-year-old Mitchell Parker was killed after a traffic crash that involved one vehicle on North Combee Road near the intersection of State Road 33 at around 10:58 p.m.

Officers said Parker was traveling northbound on North Combee Road when the vehicle continued northwest before the intersection on the grassy shoulder and impacted a concrete traffic signal support pole.

The car came to rest against the signal support pole, and the reasons for Parker not stopping the car are still unknown.

Two other passengers were in the vehicle, including 31-year-old Jennifer Parker, who was in the passenger seat, and a 9-year-old in the rear seat.

The Lakeland Police Department Patrol Units, Polk County Fire Rescue and the Lakeland Fire Department all arrived on the accident scene to begin life-saving measures.

Parker was pronounced dead at the scene, while the front passenger was transported to Lakeland Regional Health with critical injuries. The 9-year-old passenger was airlifted to Tampa General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Authorities had to close the roadway for around 4 hours in order to investigate the scene thoroughly and gather information for their ongoing investigation.
