Police say a fight between mothers ended with gunfire in Boynton Beach

Police say a fight between mothers ended with gunfire in Boynton Beach

A late-night argument between two women escalated into gunfire inside a Boynton Beach apartment, leaving one woman shot and triggering a multi-agency search for a missing child, according to police.

JTG, 26, surrendered to the Boynton Beach Police Department on Thursday, hours after investigators say she shot 26-year-old La’Shay Lee during a physical altercation.

G is charged with aggravated battery with a firearm and shooting into an occupied dwelling. She is being held at the Palm Beach County Jail on a $100,000 bond and has been ordered to have no contact with the victim. Court records show her contact with her child is limited to phone calls, pending approval from the Florida Department of Children and Families.

What police say happened

Officers were dispatched just before 2:49 a.m. Thursday to an apartment on NE 9th Avenue after reports that a woman had been shot.

Police say Lee was found inside the apartment with a gunshot wound and immediately identified the shooter as “Justice Johnson,” later confirmed to be G. Lee was transported to Delray Medical Center for treatment.

Investigators say Lee and her child lived at the apartment. Two babysitters were inside at the time, watching both women’s children while Lee and G had gone out earlier in the night.

Argument turns violent

According to sworn witness statements, G returned to the apartment to pick up her child. When Lee arrived shortly after, a verbal argument escalated into a physical fight.

One witness told police he noticed a black handgun tucked into the waistband of G’s shorts as the argument intensified. Cell phone video provided to investigators shows the fight moving from inside the apartment into the hallway.

Police say Lee went back inside the apartment and tried to close the door. That’s when a single gunshot was fired.

Police initially said the victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds, but investigators later documented one gunshot in the arrest report.

Investigators documented a bullet hole through the apartment door, a spent shell casing in the hallway, and blood just inside the doorway — evidence police say confirms Lee was inside the apartment when she was shot.

G claims self-defense

G later spoke with detectives after being read her Miranda rights.

Child witnessed shooting, police say

Detectives later interviewed G’s child, who police say was present during the fight. According to the arrest report, the child told investigators he saw his mother point the gun from outside the apartment while Lee was inside and fire a shot.

The child also told detectives his mother instructed him not to say anything afterward.

Charges filed

Police say witness statements, video evidence, physical evidence, and interviews all support the charges filed against G.

The investigation remains active.
