A Port Charlotte woman has entered a written plea of not guilty in a case involving a fatal hit-and-run that killed a teen.

Troopers said C, 33, was arrested and is accused of hitting a 17-year-old riding his e-bike and leaving him for dead.

The crash happened in May near Coliseum Boulevard and Wilmington Boulevard, just off South McCall Road. The aftermath showed the damaged e-bike lying on the side of the road.

Troopers said they located C and her damaged SUV at a home in Port Charlotte.

Investigators said C initially stopped and checked her rearview mirror but claimed she thought she had hit an animal and drove away.

C later admitted to driving away because she had been drinking and was scared, according to investigators.

Her arrest report stated that C told her son about the incident, and her son called police to report it.

The teenager was flown to a Sarasota hospital, where he later died.

The case is moving forward, with another court date scheduled for August 4.
