A man accused of being a repeat DUI offender caused a head-on collision in Hillsborough County on Sunday night.

Deputies responded to the scene of the crash at 9:25 p.m. near Columbus Drive and Regional Water Lane, near Tampa.

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) Linton Robertson, 73, drove his vehicle the wrong way in the eastbound lane striking another vehicle head-on. Robertson and the other driver both were injured during the crash and taken to the Tampa General Hospital.

Deputies say once he was at the hospital, they noticed Robertson was impaired.

Video taken at the scene showed the front hood of the white car smashed as Hillsborough County deputies analyzed the scene. A gray vehicle is smashed.

Robertson previously had a BAC over 0.2. More charges will be coming against Robertson following the findings of a blood sample that was submitted to the FDLE.

“There is no excuse for driving under the influence and putting others’ lives at risk,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “The consequences of impaired driving can be life-altering, and we will not tolerate anyone who threatens the safety of our residents.”
