A couple in Sanford received thousands of dollars from friends, families, and strangers alike after their home was destroyed in a fire in July.
Ed and Dana Eastabrooks lost everything, including their pet dog and bird, as well as their home, in July. After hearing about the Eastabrooks’ loss, Hopkins Meat Market decided to try and help the couple. Hopkins sold hundreds of pounds of pulled pork, all to raise money for the Eastabrooks.
Marie Rysdyk of Hopkins Meats said, “These people, I’ve known forever. They’ve been customers for how long? Over 50 years. They are Sanford businesspeople like me, and my heart said, ‘do something’.”
Rysdyk presented a check of over $17,000 to the Eastabrooks on Monday, totaling all the money Hopkins raised.
Ed Eastabrooks said of the money, “It means we can start having a home again.”
Other donations came in from all over Central Florida after people heard of the fire. An amazing $40,000 was donated, besides the money from Hopkins Meat Market.
