School bus with students onboard crashes into ditch in Escambia County

A school bus with 70 children onboard crashed into a ditch Wednesday afternoon in Escambia County.

It happened around 3:15 p.m. by the Moorings Apartments on Old Spanish Trail Road. The bus was carrying students from Ferry Pass Elementary.

Florida Highway Patrol and EMS ambulances were called to the scene.

The school district tells WEAR News that when the bus driver turned into the Moorings Apartment complex, the passenger rear wheel went into the ditch. The bus did not turn over.

According to troopers, the area was unfamiliar to the bus driver as construction blocked off the usual entryway.

Two children were transported to the hospital out of an abundance of caution. Troopers say a few alleged injuries were reported but nothing serious.
