Sebastian Police Department volunteer arrested for possession of child sexual abuse material.

A man who volunteered with a South Florida police department is under arrest.

According to the Sebastian Police Department, Arnold Flannery was arrested Tuesday morning and faces 50 counts of possession of child sexual abuse material..

Flannery was a member of the Sebastian Police Department volunteer program since January 2022.

The police department said it, along with the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office, executed a search of Flannery’s home in the 4000 block of Limerick Court in Sebastian.

Flannery was taken into custody after the search.

Sebastian Police Department Chief Daniel Acosta released the following statement: “The safety and well-being of our community’s children are of upmost importance. The behavior alleged in this case is abhorrent and will not be tolerated by anyone, regardless of their position. Our thoughts are with the victims, and we are committed to ensuring justice is served.”

Acosta also expressed gratitude of the work personnel from the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office and the Sebastian Police Department conducted in the investigation.

The Sebastian Police Department said its volunteer program is to conduct security checks for the agency’s House Watch Program.

Volunteers are also involved in neighborhood patrol, traffic control, funeral escorts, courier services and assisting at special city events.
