A semi-truck carrying tires was heavily damaged after crashing into a bridge on the Florida Turnpike.
According to Martin County Fire Rescue, both the northbound and southbound lanes of the Turnpike were closed after the semi-truck struck a bridge.
The crash prompted a response from Martin County Fire Rescue and the Martin County Sheriff’s Office. The driver suffered minor injuries and refused transport to a hospital.
Firefighters said a more detailed inspection found minor cracking on one of the bridge’s support pillars.
MCFR said all lanes remain closed out of an abundance of caution while Florida Highway Patrol engineers investigate.
This isn’t the first time a truck has crashed into a bridge in Palm City. CBS12 reported in March that a dump truck hit the Citrus Boulevard overpass above I-95, leading to a shut down of all southbound lanes on the interstate.
