A late-night crash in Escambia County left a 42-year-old bicyclist from Pace dead on Tuesday after an SUV struck him, according to FHP.
Troopers say the crash happened at about 11:45 p.m. on North W. Street north of Lenox Parkway.
An SUV was traveling south in the southbound outside lane when it came up behind a bicyclist who was also traveling south in the same lane, according to FHP.
Troopers say the driver, a 45-year-old Pensacola man, failed to observe the bicyclist due to low light conditions, and the front of the SUV struck the bicyclist.
Paramedics with Escambia County EMS pronounced the bicyclist dead at the scene. The SUV driver was not injured, according to FHP.
The investigation remained ongoing.
No further details have been released.
