An 85-year-old St. Pete man who is accused of running over a pedestrian in a Publix parking lot last Friday admitted to police that he knew he ran “something” over, but still didn’t stop and drove home instead.
Just before 5 p.m. on Nov. 7 at the Publix on 37th Avenue North, D. B. struck and ran over an elderly woman in the parking lot before fleeing the scene, the St. Petersburg Police Department said.
The woman, 91-year-old M. B., was taken to the hospital, where she died of her injuries.
B. was located and arrested at his apartment complex a few hours later, police said. He was booked into the Pinellas County Jail and charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving death, a felony.
An affidavit from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said in an interview with police, B. admitted to knowing he ran over “something” in the parking lot and not stopping.
He was released from jail Saturday evening on a $50,000 bond.
