A crash in Collier County on U.S. 41 in Naples left one cyclist dead Sunday night.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, an SUV being driven by a man from Naples was going south on U.S. 41 and Guilford Road.
When a cyclist attempted to cross the travel lanes on U.S. 41, the SUV crashed into them.
The driver fled the scene after the crash.
The person on the bicycle, a 41-year-old man from North Port, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The SUV was found a short time after the crash at a nearby apartment complex. It was found to have damage to the left front and windshield area and was impounded for evidence.
The suspected hit-and-run driver, J. G. 42, was arrested by state troopers on charges of leaving a scene involving death. They were taken to Collier County Jail.
