One person was shot and killed Sunday morning near a busy Fort Myers intersection, prompting a large response from emergency crews and the arrest of a man.
According to Fort Myers Police, Y R, 41, was arrested as the suspect in the shooting that left one person dead shortly before 9:15 a.m. near Palm Beach Boulevard and Oasis Grand Boulevard.
The shooting happened in the parking lot of a public boat ramp next to the Oasis Grand.
Gulf Coast News spoke to multiple residents in the area who said they heard a gunshot, with one man adding that police knocked on his door and told him to leave the building.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office is also at the scene with divers in the water in nearby Billy Creek to assist in the investigation.
Further details on the victim and what led to the shooting have not yet been released by police. However, they have confirmed they are not looking for any other suspects and that R and the victim did not know each other.
R is now facing charges of weapon offenses, aggravated assault, homicide, and obstruction of justice.
