An SUV crashed into a dump truck, killing one person on Immokalee Road near Rabbit Run Road.
The collision was reported to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office at around 6 a.m. Thursday.
The vehicle was traveling southbound while the truck was driving in the opposing direction.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, the driver of the white SUV strayed from his lane, crossing over to the northbound side of the road, crashing into the dump truck.
The impact crushed the dump truck’s front end, and the SUV ended up on its side. Both vehicles ended up in a swampy ditch. The SUV became partially submerged.
FHP officials stated that the driver of the SUV was killed. The passenger has been transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.
Earlier reports, according to CCSO, had documented two people had died at the scene, but that information was incorrect.
All lanes of traffic were closed while CCSO and FHP investigated the cause of the crash.
The vehicles have since been cleared from the scene, and FHP will investigate further.
