A now former teacher at a Southwest Miami-Dade school faced a judge Tuesday morning, accused of hurting a student.
Fifty-three-year-old G appeared in an orange jumpsuit, hours after being arrested for charges of child abuse.
According to her arrest report, the nightmare unfolded at Lincoln-Martí location along Southwest 288th Street when the 2-year-old boy started having a temper tantrum at the daycare. In response, H allegedly lifted him off the ground by his wrist and “placed both hands around the victim’s neck and face and shook [him] back and forth a few times.”
Authorities said the victim “sustained a mark on right side of his neck and bruising on his left cheek.”
In bond court on Tuesday, the judge found probable cause and issued a $5,000 bond. On Tuesday night, she walked out of jail but decided to stay silent on the allegations against her.
E, a parent who had her children at the school told 7News she was forced to withdraw them following her own concerns with staff.
“I’m like, ‘What’s going on at the school?’ And when he said it, I already knew what teacher he was talking about. I already knew,” said E.
A statement issued by a Lincoln-Martí spokesperson reads:
“Lincoln-Martí Community Agency is deeply saddened and troubled by the conduct depicted in the classroom surveillance video involving a former employee and a two-year-old child.
Upon viewing the footage, the Director immediately removed the employee from the classroom and campus, notified Lincoln-Mаrtí’s administrative office, and terminated her employment. Lincoln-Mаrtí then promptly reported the incident to the Florida Abuse Hotline.
Although no system can always predict the actions of an individual employee, Lincoln-Mаrtí’s surveillance, supervisory and reporting safeguards enabled the conduct to be discovered promptly, the employee to be removed, the family to be informed and the appropriate authorities to be notified. We extend our sincere support to the child and his family.”
This isn’t the school’s first run-in with the law. In 2016, 7News covered the story of another teacher’s alleged abuse of a 3-year-old girl at another Lincoln-Marti location.
As for H, she has been ordered to stay away from the student and the school.
