The Florida Highway Patrol said a teenage boy was killed in a crash in Seffner on Saturday night, and authorities are still searching for one of the drivers who fled the scene on foot.
The 17-year-old boy, driving a Volkswagen Passat, was heading west on MLK Jr. Boulevard just before 11 p.m. on April 11. Approaching from the opposite direction was a 40-year-old Mulberry man, driving a Nissan Versa.
FHP said west of Chastain Road, the Nissan moved into the westbound lane, striking the teen’s vehicle nearly head-on.
Both vehicles spun out across the roadway, and moments later, the teen’s car was hit again by a Ford F150 that was traveling behind him. Following the second crash, the driver of the Ford fled the scene on foot and is still at large, FHP said.
The drivers of the Volkswagen and Nissan were both hospitalized, and the teen later died of his injuries. FHP did not release any additional information about the condition of the other driver.
Anyone with information about this crash or the driver of the Ford that fled the scene is asked to contact FHP (347) or Crime Stoppers at **TIPS.
