A deadly multiple vehicle crash on I-95 North in Riviera Beach closed all lanes overnight into Wednesday morning.
The crash happened at Exit 76, Blue Heron Boulevard, just before 12:30 a.m.
In an 8:10 a.m. update from Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), a 16-year-old girl from Riviera Beach was killed.
According to FHP’s crash report, the teen was driving a Nissan Altima northbound on I-95 when she reportedly lost control of her car, hitting a guardrail and concrete wall before the car came to a stop on the interstate the roadway.
Investigators say the teen got out of the vehicle and was leaning into the back seat when a man driving a BMW X3 crashed into the disabled car. The impact threw the teen girl onto the shoulder of the highway, killing her.
The driver of the BMW, a 21-year-old man from Jupiter, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital.
A third driver, a 49-year-old man from Port St. Lucie, tried to avoid the crash but struck the disabled Nissan before hitting a concrete wall. He was not injured.
As of 6:10 a.m., officials have reported that all lanes have reopened. The crash remains under investigation.
