On Monday night, one woman found herself having contractions in the middle of I-75 after the interstate was shut down because of a deadly crash.
You wouldn’t imagine giving birth on the interstate, but for 19-year-old KC it quickly became a reality.
“We’re going 90 like all the way here,” shared mom K C.
She gave birth to her daughter, E on Monday night after an SUV rollover crash shut down the southbound lanes of I-75 at the Williston Road exit.
“She has a story to tell for the rest of her life,” said C.
Her day started like all the others, until she started cramping while shopping in Cross City. That’s when she and her fiancée decided to head to Shands.
“We got over in the grass very illegally and drove all the way up to exit 384, and we saw a cop blocking off the lanes, so I told her to pull over and call 911,” Ca shared.
Ca says after about two minutes on the interstate they heard the car crash.
“She was panicking and I was panicking, so I just jumped out and tried to flag down the cop, and I fell and hit the ground just screaming and crying,” said C.
Within 10 minutes of flagging down the officer, she was in the back of an ambulance and pushing while still stuck on the interstate.
“As soon as I got back there, I felt the urge to push. I pushed once and my water exploded over the whole back of the ambulance. It was all over the guys, it was all over his phone,” C shared.
She says E’s name is very meaningful to her, but how she had her daughter hits even closer to home.
“It’s terrible, but like at the same time there was beauty in the chaos,” said C.
E is a type of lily, and C’s friend Lily died a couple years ago in a car accident, so she named her daughter after her friend.
“So many emotions at once. Like sad, angry, happy, pretty much everything,” C shared.
C says her adrenaline was pumping so much, but she will never forget how her daughter was born, and she’s thankful for the first responders who helped. Now, she’s ready to take her daughter home and see her 1-year-old son.
