Trooper involved shooting in Washington County

On Wednesday morning, a Florida State Trooper was involved in a shooting following a traffic stop attempt.

According to FHP, a trooper tried to pull over a black Toyota Camry going over 100 MPH in a 35 MPH zone. The driver sped away.

Another trooper and various deputies from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office tried to assist.

The initial trooper involved used a PIT maneuver on the Camry. The suspect was armed and ran away on foot.

Law enforcement said the suspect was heard saying he had “charges” and was going to “death row.”

Troopers followed the suspect into a wooded area, and the suspect brandished a firearm and threatened their lives.

The suspect was killed as a result of the incident.

FHP says this is currently an active investigation.
