Two critically injured in Escambia County crash on Highway 29 after driver runs red light

Two people from Birmingham, Alabama, are critically injured following a crash in Escambia County on Friday afternoon.

Florida Highway Patrol said the two-vehicle crash happened on U.S. Highway 29 (North Century Boulevard) and Molino Road around 2 p.m.

A red Lexus SUV ran the red light as a white Chevrolet SUV was making a left in the area. This led to a collision between the two.

The occupants of the Lexus SUV were critically injured. A 73-year-old female passenger was flown to the hospital. The driver, an 86-year-old man, was driven by EMS to the hospital.

Only minor injuries were sustained by the occupants of the Chevrolet SUV. They were taken to the hospital as well.

Hwy 29 was shut down for a while, but it’s since re-opened.
