Two dead after shooting in Vero Beach, large sum of cash found near body: IRCSO

Two dead bodies and a large sum of cash were found at the scene of a deadly shooting in Vero Beach on Monday afternoon.

The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office (IRCSO) said the shooting occurred at the Vero Lakes Estates Community on 105th Court, off 77th Street, near I-95. Flowers said the sheriff’s office gets its fair share of calls to the community, but not typically for shooting homicides.

Sheriff Eric Flowers told CBS12 News that a 911 call came in at 3:01 p.m. A resident told dispatch she heard a noise, and when she went to open her garage she saw what she believed was a body lying on her yard.

As deputies arrived at the scene, Flowers said they were able to locate a vehicle on the side of the road, a body lying in front of it. The sheriff’s office said they were both shot dead. The sheriff’s office said they are still working to identify the dead to notify next-of-kin.

Sheriff Flowers said there was a large sum of cash on the ground, near one of the bodies. The sheriff’s office said the bodies were found 15 yards from each other.

Flowers said the vehicle they believe is involved in the homicide was not from the county, and there is no connection to the Vero Lakes Estates neighborhood. The sheriff’s office said it’s in contact with the law enforcement agency that the vehicle

“These guys have not spent time in our community, they just came in about 2:30 this afternoon. Somewhere in that 2:30 p.m. to 3 p.m., something happened that caused their deaths we wanna find out what that was,” Flowers said.

Sheriff Flowers said the sheriff’s office is using license plate reader cameras to gather more details in the active investigation.

The IRCSO said it’s asking residents to step forward if they saw something and call the sheriff’s office at (772) 569-6700.

“If you have cameras, or if you know, heard, or saw anything to please notify us,” Sheriff Flowers said. “We’re gonna be out here for quite some time this evening, and we’re certainly interested if anyone knows or saw anything.”

This is a developing story. More details will be provided if it becomes available.
