As more information continues to be released on the early morning shooting on Golf Club Lane, the suspect has been identified and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The sheriff said that after arriving at the home, 32-year-old AB of Venice was inside and given verbal commands to exit. However, Bottoni allegedly refused.
Members of the Fugitive Apprehension Unit then forced entry into the residence and allegedly found Bottoni armed with a gun, according to the sheriff.
Deputies then moved to the backyard and requested assistance from SWAT and the Hostage Negotiation Team.
Moments later, B allegedly exited the home with the firearm still in his possession.
B was commanded to drop the weapon by deputies. When he refused, a deputy used a Taser to try to subdue him, but it was not effective, the sheriff’s office said.
B then pointed the weapon at deputies, forcing them to open fire, hitting him, the sheriff’s office said.
Life-saving measures were given to B until EMS with the Sarasota County Fire Department arrived and continued efforts. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
No other injuries have been reported.
The investigation is ongoing.
