VIDEO: Boat engulfed in flames behind Indian Rocks Beach home

A boat caught fire in Indian Rocks Beach on Thursday.

Footage from viewers and WFLA’s news chopper, Eagle 8 HD, showed a 26-foot-long boat engulfed in flames on a lift behind a home.

Pinellas Suncoast Fire & Rescue District crews were called to the area between North Indian Rocks Beach and the southern portion of Belleair Beach at 12:20 p.m. They used land-based units and a water unit to fight the fire.

Firefighters were concerned that fuel leaked into the water, but none was found after the fire was extinguished. Hazmat dikes were placed around the boat out of caution.

Crews from Largo Fire Rescue and Seminole Fire Rescue assisted with the hazmat mitigation. The Environmental Protection Agency and U.S. Coast Guard and State Watch Office were notified about the incident.

Investigators are still working to determine what caused the boat to catch fire. No additional damage was reported.
