Woman dies after crashing into concrete power pole in Lake City

A woman died after crashing into a concrete power pole at a Lake City intersection on Wednesday, the Lake City Police Department said.

Officials said at around 1:10 p.m. on North Marion Avenue near the intersection of Northwest Long Street, police found a car with heavy front-end damage resulting from a crash with a concrete power pole.

The driver, an 82-year-old woman, was treated on scene and transported by Columbia County Emergency Medical Services to a trauma center, where she died.

North Marion Avenue was temporarily closed in both directions and has since reopened.

“Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the driver during this difficult time,” Chief of Police Gerald Butler said. “We appreciate the patience of our citizens while officers and emergency personnel worked to safely investigate and clear the scene.”

LCPD is investigating the cause of the crash.
