Mere seconds after a Brightline train passed by, a three-vehicle crash occurred at the tracks near Blue Heron Boulevard, prompting law enforcement’s response.
According to the Riviera Beach Police Department (RBPD), a little after 4 p.m. on Wednesday, a white SUV on President Barack Obama Boulevard attempted to make a left turn on Blue Hero Boulevard. The SUV crossed the path of a car that was traveling northbound, causing it to slightly T-bone the SUV.
Traffic camera video shows a Brightline train whizzing by. Once the train has completely passed, traffic on President Barack Obama Boulevard begins to move again. A light blue car makes a successful left turn, followed closely by a white SUV. Moments later, a gray car heading northbound slightly T-bones the white SUV.
The gray car is seen trying to avoid contact as it maneuvers out of the way, brushes the side of the light blue car, strikes the rising gate arms, and comes to a rest on the east side of the tracks.
Riviera Beach officers arrived at the scene and notified the Florida East Coast (FEC) Railway to alert the approaching freight train. Police say that the train stopped just south of the rail crossing.
Police say one of the drivers at the scene was treated for a back injury but refused to go to the hospital.
