‘We heard the screams’: Neighbor reacts to woman violently attacked in her Port Salerno neighborhood

Deputies with the Martin County Sheriff’s Office are searching for a masked man who they said violently attacked a woman outside her Port Salerno home Thursday morning.

Deputies responded to the scene located near Field Street and 47th Avenue just after 6 a.m.

Sheriff William Snyder said the victim fought back.

“Out of nowhere, without any warning, a suspect attacked her in the car,” Snyder said. “He grabbed her around the throat pushed her back, reached over into her car, took her tote bag and then fled of on foot.”

Neighbor Joann Hulett said her daughter ran outside when they heard screams.

“She jumped up she ran out to see what happened, and they were saying attack, attack,” Joann Hulett said.

Her son, Terrence Hulett, is concerned.

“My mom’s here, I got family here. It could have been one of them,” Terrence Hulett said. “That’s the biggest concern for me. It could possibly have been one of them.”

The sheriff said they are offering a reward to anyone who finds the victim’s tote bag that was stolen.
