A 61-year-old woman was arrested early Tuesday morning after cellphone video went viral on social media, showing her berating children who were riding their bikes in Pinecrest.
Online jail records show SCP was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center at 5:50 a.m. on charges of robbery by sudden snatching and battery.
Her bond was listed as “to be set.”
The cellphone video posted to social media over the weekend shows P visibly angry after pulling over her Bentley and speaking with two children who were riding their bikes along Southwest 57th Avenue in Pinecrest.
P shouted and cursed at the kids, and one of the kids yelled back, saying she tried to hit him. At one point, P appeared to shove one of the children.
“It’s a bike path,” one boy is heard calmly telling P in the video.
“You were in the f***ing street and you know it,” P responded.
According to her arrest report, P grabbed one of the victim’s cellphones, raised it over her head and threatened to throw it in the canal.
The report also states the victim suffered an injury to his hand.
Within moments, other drivers pulled over, scolding P and telling her she shouldn’t put her hands on a child.
Days after the video went viral, P turned herself in to Pinecrest police, who transported her to TGK.
“Grabbing the phone out of his hand and throwing it is robbery. Robbery by sudden snatching. Which is a serious felony,” Pinecrest Police Department Chief Jason Cohen said. “And she also struck him in the hand when she did it so it’s also battery.”
Local 10 was the only news team there as an officer spoke to P before taking her inside the jail.
In court, her attorney, Larry McMillan, said she was trying to stop dangerous behavior.
“She observed juveniles on e-bikes popping wheelies being disruptive,” McMillan said. “Marauding kids.”
P walked out of jail on Tuesday evening and told Local 10 News’ Bridgette Matter, “The truth shall prevail” after saying that she does not believe she should have been arrested.
