Woman dies after being hit by car while walking along Lady Lake roadway

A woman is dead after being hit by an SUV Tuesday night in Lady Lake, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash happened around 7:30 p.m. at Vermont Avenue and Wales Place.

FHP said an 83-year-old man from Lady Lake was driving a 2012 Dodge Journey westbound on Vermont Avenue, near Wales Plaza.

Troopers say at the same time, an 82-year-old woman from Lady Lake was walking west along the road when the front of the SUV hit her.

The woman was transported to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The driver was not injured and stayed at the scene, FHP says.

The crash is under investigation.
