The Tampa Police Department said it is investigating a crash which injured one person and a wheelchair and killed a 71-year-old man.
TPD said the crash happened just after 9 p.m. Monday at East Hanna Avenue and North 24th Street.
Officers said an 81-year-old woman, who uses a wheelchair, and a 71-year-old man were both struck while crossing the street. Both were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The man later passed away, officials said. The woman is expected to recover from her injuries.
TPD said the investigation indicated a 23-year-old man in a Jeep Wrangler was going east on Hanna Avenue. Another driver swerved to avoid hitting the victims, but the Jeep was not able to stop in time and hit both the man and woman.
The driver of the Jeep remained and the scene and is cooperating with investigators, TPD said.
Impairment is not believed to be a factor, but investigators are still determining the driver’s speed, TPD said.
