1 dead, 1 injured in self-defense shooting at condos near Lake Mary Boulevard, deputies say

One person is dead and another was injured after a fight led to a shooting at a condominium complex in Lake Mary, the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office said.

The shooting happened just after 2 a.m. Sunday at the Notting Hill Condominiums, just south of Lake Mary Boulevard, west of Interstate 4.

According to the sheriff’s office, when deputies arrived on the scene, they found a man with life-threatening gunshot wounds and a woman with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the hand. Both were taken to the hospital where the man was pronounced dead.

The sheriff’s office said the suspected shooter remained at the scene after the incident and told officials he had been involved in an argument with the man. When the suspected shooter tried to leave, he was followed by the man to his vehicle where he was attacked.

In fear for his safety, the suspected shooter retrieved a firearm and opened fire, striking the man and woman who tried to break up the fight inside the suspected shooter’s vehicle, the sheriff’s office says.

Detectives say the parties are known to each other and this incident is isolated.

After consulting with the State Attorney’s office, the sheriff’s office said the shooting is believed to be self-defense. No charges have been filed at this time.

The investigation is ongoing. The names of those involved are not being released pending notification of next of kin.
