The product is being shared by millions, allowing more users to view the product as the next “cool” or “popular” norm since they are being influenced by popular content creators.
Content creators are comparing the product to chewing gum on their social media posts due to the flavors offered such as peppermint, cinnamon, spearmint and more. The marketing on Tiktok has led to various other concerns coming to light of these Zyn pouches. When these companies start marketing towards children under the age of 18, it is not a good sign.
Some of the problems that were listed in the lawsuit includes, the risk of addiction and other negative consequences such as cognitive disorders, cardiovascular injury, gastrointestinal problems, and gum disease. The owner of Zyn, Philip Morris is under fire for not properly displaying the risks of the product and the absorption of nicotine.
ZYN pouches are very additive, studies have found that they contain more nicotine then cigarettes. Doctors are concerned due to the limited research surrounding the product, especially since it is marketed towards younger generations. U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer of New York has also been vocal about his concerns about Zyn’s impact on younger generations. In the warning form Schumer, he mentioned the additive symptoms caused from using the nicotine in the pouches. In his speech he also claimed the items are gaining popularity among young people, particularly on social media. It is clear that Zyn pouches are another nicotine based product younger generations are falling susceptible too.
In the same press conference, Schumer said “It’s a pouch packed with problems – high levels of nicotine.”. Many were not thrilled with the New York U.S. Senator and he has received some backlash. Regardless, parents do need to be aware of the risks that nicotine imposes on their kids.
