Cape Coral police say at least one person is dead after a house fire on SW 6th Avenue in Cape Coral early Thursday morning.
Police say one adult male victim was found in the fire before being transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators also found a dead cat in the fire.
Police say the investigation is ongoing at this time and the fire has been labeled as an arson.
The Cape Coral Fire Department, Cape Coral Police Department and Lee County Electric Cooperative responded to the scene just after 4 a.m.
LCEC was called to the scene to cut the home’s power for the safety of the firefighters. It has been turned back on.
Firefighters say the house had heavy flames after a neighbor reported a fire coming from the garage.
Caution tape has been placed around the home and portions of SW 6th Ave are blocked off at this time.
