A 44-year-old Fort Myers man died after a tanker truck collided with a golf cart on Winkler Road Saturday morning.
The crash happened around 10:49 a.m.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the man was driving the golf cart south on Winkler Road, approaching Clipper Lane.
A propane truck was traveling north on Winkler, ahead of the golf cart.
According to FHP troopers, the golf cart traveled off the roadway lane, overcorrected and entered the northbound lane.
Troopers said the vehicles then collided and the Fort Myers man was pronounced dead on the scene.
“A lot of people that were standing out here, they were shocked,” John Varga told NBC2. “The truck driver, I thought they were going to be helping him on a stretcher, he looked like he was absolutely completely out of it after the accident, he looked devastated.”
A passenger on the golf cart and the driver of the propane truck suffered minor injuries, according to the report.
“I don’t know who it is who’s at fault, we don’t know that’s not up for us to determine, but there’s definitely going to be some sympathy,” said Scott Cochrane.
According to FHP, the crash remains under investigation.
