1 dead in Cooper City after vehicle crashes into tree, goes up in flames

COOPER CITY, Fla. – Authorities in Broward County are investigating a fatal crash.

It occurred Tuesday shortly after 8:30 p.m. in the area of Pine Island Road and Southwest 51st Street in Cooper City.

First responders arrived to find a vehicle engulfed in flames that had crashed into a tree.

After the fire was extinguished, authorities found a man deceased inside the vehicle.

His identity has not been released.

According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, it appears that the driver of the 2004 Lexus IS300 was speeding while heading south on South Pine Island Road.

Deputies said the driver eventually lost control of the vehicle and started to slide sideways.

The vehicle then jumped the raised curb and crashed head-on into a tree in the center median, causing it to be uprooted.

“Investigators say the vehicle rotated around the first tree and struck a second tree with the rear driver’s side of the vehicle coming to a final rest against the tree,” a BSO news release stated. “The impact caused the vehicle to become engulfed in flames with the driver inside the vehicle.”

An investigation into the cause of the crash remains ongoing.
