1 hospitalized after SUV crashes into tree, catches fire in Escambia County

One person was hospitalized after a vehicle crashed into a tree and caught fire Sunday night in Escambia County.

It happened around 7:30 p.m. at the intersection of W. Highway 98 and Erin Drive.

According to Escambia Fire Rescue, a SUV left the roadway, struck a tree and caught fire.

Firefighters worked quickly to extinguish the vehicle fire to prevent any further spread into the woods. The situation was brought under control by 9:46 p.m.

One person was transported to an area hospital by Escambia County EMS.

Escambia County EMS, Escambia County Sheriff’s Office and Florida Highway Patrol provided assistance.
