1 in custody after fire at Lake Worth Beach apartment complex

One person was taken into custody after a Friday morning fire at a Lake Worth Beach apartment complex, Palm Beach County Fire Rescue (PBCFR) confirmed.

According to PBCFR, the county’s Fire Marshal determined the fire, in the 3900 block of Melaleuca Lane, was intentionally set. The agency’s statement did not indicate how the fire started, nor did it say why someone may have started it.

In its statement, PBCFR explained firefighters responded to the complex Friday morning within three minutes of the first reports and were greeted by a mass of billowing smoke coming from one of the apartments.

Firefighters had the blaze, which had spread to both floors, under control within nine minutes of arriving, PBCFR stated.

A search of the premises found nobody had been inside any of the apartments at the time. No injuries were reported in the incident.

The name of the person in custody has not been released.
