A woman was killed and two others suffered serious injuries in a head-on crash early Sunday in Volusia County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred around 1:30 a.m. on Tomoka Farms Road, near Shunz Road, troopers said.
According to an FHP crash report, a 2021 Mazda CX-5 was traveling south on Tomoka Farms Road while a 2022 Nissan Murano traveled north.
The 74-year-old Ormond Beach woman driving the Mazda drifted into the northbound lane and the direct path of the Nissan, causing the fronts of both vehicles to collide, the report states.
The Ormond Beach woman was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said. Her passenger, a 68-year-old New York woman, and the driver of the Nissan, a 35-year-old woman from Port Orange, were both hospitalized for treatment of serious injuries, according to the report.
Troopers believe everyone involved in the crash was wearing a seat belt.
FHP is still investigating.
