Four deaths attributed to Hurricane Milton have been reported in Volusia County, according to county officials.
Hurricane Milton made landfall Wednesday night around 8:30 p.m. as a Category 3 storm, and then passed through Central Florida.
Sheriff Mike Chitwood said four people were killed during the storm:
- Two people were killed by falling trees
- One person had a heart attack while boarding up their house ahead of the storm
- One person suffered cardiac arrest during the height of the storm, but it was too dangerous for first responders to get there
Port Orange
A 54-year-old woman was killed in Port Orange after a tree fell on her home during Hurricane Milton, according to the Port Orange Police Department. Police said the woman lived on Spring Drive.
Her name was not released pending notification of her family.
Ormond Beach
An older woman was killed in Ormond Beach after a tree fell on her home, according to the Ormond Beach Police Department. Police said a tree fell on the home, where an elderly couple was inside. A man and woman were rushed to the hospital. The woman died. The man remains in critical condition, officials said.
Officials have not released details about the two heart attack victims.
