One motorcyclist died and another was critically injured in a crash on Old St. Augustine Road near Baptist Medical Center South Friday morning, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
Police said just before 7 a.m., two motorcycles were riding westbound on Old St. Augustine Road. Based on roadway evidence, both motorcycles went down at Grand Bay Parkway.
According to JSO, the details of the crash are still unclear, and they have not determined whether the motorcycles hit one another.
Both motorcyclists were transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
One of the motorcyclists, a man in his early 30s, died at the hospital.
The second rider was in critical condition as of Friday at 10:30 a.m., police said.
Westbound Old St. Augustine Road was closed for hours as detectives worked on processing the traffic crash scene.
This crash marks the 145th traffic fatality in Duval County this year and the 27th involving a motorcyclist.
