One person was killed after a mobile home caught fire in Hernando County Wednesday.

The fire broke out just after 7 p.m. at a mobile home on Shady Street in Brooksville, according to a post by Hernando County Fire Rescue, which stated that crews were on scene fighting the blaze.

Hernando County Fire Chief PH said neighbors informed firefighters that someone was possibly trapped inside the home. The residence was already up in flames when they arrived.

The first crews on scene entered the home and found the victim dead inside. Officials said there was significant fire damage inside the house.

The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office later stated that deputies were dispatched to the scene for a “death investigation as a result of the fire.”

The State Fire Marshal was also in route to assist in the investigation, as the fire chief explained is normal procedure when there is a death involved.

As of Wednesday night, officials said the investigation was ongoing. Hernando County Fire Rescue called it “an active crime scene.”

“We’re just encouraging folks to stay out of the immediate area while crews finish picking up tools and equipment and the State Fire Marshal’s Office does their investigation,” H said.
