Heavy smoke was seen billowing from a parking garage at Miami International Airport after multiple vehicles caught fire Wednesday.

The fire was reported between the first and second floors of the Flamingo Garage at MIA around 11:35 a.m.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Acting North District Chief R V said four vehicles caught fire and eight other vehicles that were nearby were damaged.

Aerial footage from Chopper 6 showed heavy smoke coming from the garage as crews responded.

V said the fire was quickly placed under control, and there were no injuries. Crews spent some time on ventilation while trying to clear the smoke.

One woman who came to pick up her mom at the airport said she parked on the second floor of the garage and couldn’t make it to her car because of all the smoke.

“I heard sounds beeping and the alarm and I can’t see anything so I run and try to find my car but I couldn’t see my car,” M B said.

V said all of the vehicles involved were gas-powered and none were electric. He said officials were working to contact the owners and that the owners of cars not impacted by the fire were being allowed to remove them.

Fire investigators were working to determine the origin and cause of the fire, and crews will also inspect whether there was any structural damage to the garage, V said.

The Flamingo Garage was closed for hours but was reopened Wednesday evening, though the ramp where the fire occurred and the ramps directly below and above it remained closed, officials said.

The Dolphin Garage’s entrance had been closed but was later reopened.

The people mover train between MIA and the rental car center was also shut down briefly but later reopened.
