12-year-old boy killed in scooter crash with SUV in south Fort Myers

A 12-year-old boy is dead after a crash between an SUV and a motorized scooter in south Fort Myers Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a boy riding a scooter was traveling north on Fordham Street, approaching a stop sign at Crystal Drive. An SUV was headed west on Crystal Drive toward the intersection of Fordham Street.

At around 3:40 p.m., the SUV crashed into the boy as he tried to cross Crystal Drive.

The boy was pronounced dead at the scene, FHP said.

FHP is investigating the crash at this time.
