12-year-old girl struck, injured in Marion County; pickup truck sought

A 12-year-old girl suffered serious injuries Wednesday when she was struck by a pickup truck while walking in Marion County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The crash happened around 4:10 p.m. on SE 36th Avenue near SE 107th Place in Belleview.

The FHP said the pickup was northbound on SE 36th Avenue and a part of the vehicle hit the girl, who was walking south on the east shoulder.

The child suffered non-life-threatening injuries, but no other details about her condition were released.

Troopers said the pickup, described by witnesses as a white four-door that was towing a utility trailer, fled north after the crash.
