14-year-old arrested for murdering teen outside Dollar General store in Marion County

After a year-long investigation, Marion County Sheriff’s deputies have arrested the suspect in 19-year-old G S’s murder.

K J, 14, was charged on Tuesday with second-degree murder in connection to a deadly shooting in December of 2023.

Sheriff’s deputies say on Dec. 2, 2023, around 3 p.m., Jackson met Smith at the Dollar General on Marion Oaks Boulevard to buy a gun.

During the sale, J began shooting at S’s pickup truck as he drove away. The truck stopped in the tree line behind the Marion Oaks Community Center.

Deputies found S in his truck suffering a gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital where he died.

In an unrelated case, Alachua County Sheriff’s deputies arrested S on Dec. 13, 2023. During the incident, J fled from deputies in a stolen vehicle and was found with a gun.

Detectives say they used information provided by witnesses, DNA evidence, bank records, and the victim’s social media to determine J was responsible for the murder.

J was charged while in custody at the Marion County Regional Juvenile Detention Center, where he remains.
